About This Spot

Stepping into Silver Dollar Saloon is like slipping into a well-worn story shared among locals—a place where time slows just enough to savor the simple joys. Nestled along the highway in Hill City, this unpretentious bar offers a quiet refuge from the usual tourist bustle, where the atmosphere hums with casual warmth and easy conversation.

The vibe here is that of a classic dive bar, but in the most genuine sense: a spot where the bartenders know your name, the laughter comes naturally, and new friendships are born over cold drinks and familiar comforts. There’s a relaxed rhythm to the evening service that invites you to settle in, whether you’re nursing a locally favored lager or diving into their surprisingly outstanding pizza. The menu may look straightforward, but the way the food arrives—hot, flavorful, and made to share—makes every bite a small discovery.

Silver Dollar is less about flash and more about feeling at home. The worn-in booths and familiar decor encourage you to lean back and soak up the surrounding camaraderie. It’s the kind of spot where locals and travelers find a common language, exchanging stories between sips of cranberry vodka or bites of crispy fries and wings.

Events and community gatherings give the place a pulse beyond the typical bar night, weaving it into the social fabric of the area. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick drink after exploring the Black Hills or staying for the evening to enjoy the lively yet unpretentious vibe, Silver Dollar Saloon offers a quietly memorable experience—part neighborhood haunt, part discovery, and wholly welcoming.

Pizza was great. Bartender was awsome. My wife's burger was not very good, it was under cooked and lacked flavor. Nice place to get away from the tourist traps!!

This is a dive bar, but in the best possible way. Cash only (there is an ATM inside), simple food (best pizza around) and good drinks. We always make a point to stop here when we are in the area. Seriously... get the pizza!

We stumbled upon this place on our last night in Custer and wish we would've stopped here more then once. We were the only non-local people at the saloon and felt welcome. Beer was cold, curds were great, and service was outstanding! Even got a gift from Santa that walking around the place. Would defiantly come here again if staying in Custer!

Nice biker bar along 385. Great atmosphere and super friendly bartender. I didn't order food so can't say how good or bad it is, but a menu you might expect. Good size area with an outdoor patio. Would stop again

Stopped in the SD Saloon A few times in the past week. Beer was cold, food was decent for a bar, Pizza looked good & there were many of them coming out of the kitchen. Interesting bar with lots going on. Good music box and bartender. Good place to hang out.

Lively place just outside Hill City. Just had a few local beers this visit (good selection of local brews both draught and bottled) it was a Sunday afternoon and both football on tv and bingo going on. Nice big back deck to hang out on sunny days. Didn't have a chance to try their pizza but it looked amazing.
